Entire Family of Black Belts in Bryant Prove Kicking Together Means Sticking Together

Seattle, WA June 6, 2008 – For the first time in Bryant history an entire family is earning their black belts tonight.

Dr. Marcio Sotero De Menezes, wife Rosario and their 15-year-old daughter, Gabriela, and their 12-year-old son, Paulo, will celebrate earning their black belts this evening. The Sotero’s, along with 6 other local black belt students, ages 10 and up, will be featured at a ceremony tonight at 7:00pm in the Eckstein Middle School Auditorium (3003 NE 75th Street, 98115).

Program Director and Instructor, Astre Kay, said, “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the progress and growth in students and the amount of support they get from their families. After working here for 3 years I’ve found that the families that kick together stick together.”

Interspersed between performances by students as young as four years old, our newest black belts will be demonstrating some of the skills that they have developed over the last several years as students at Alpha Martial Arts. Black belt mother and wife Rosario Sotero de Menezes said, “Confidence and positive self-esteem are benefits of martial arts for individuals of all ages. In my experience there is nothing more confidence building than mastering a self-defense technique to the point that you feel you could use it in a confrontation or perfecting a form so that your body flows effortlessly through the movements.”

Teacher Appreciation Week Success Stories…

Greetings All,

Well, we’re starting to get some amazing feedback from many of our Powerful Words member schools about their Teacher Appreciation Week Events. We’d love to hear and share your stories as well – so please let us know how it went (videos, and pictures are always appreciated!!!)

Success Story #1:

Evon Thornton from East West Martial Arts in Chestertown, MD called me last week to tell me how exciting her teacher Appreciation Week was…She had 26 school teachers attend AND 4 School Principles!!! WOW! This was all done with a relatively small enrollment…it just goes to show that Mrs. Thornton obviously teaches with passion and has some raving fan students that wanted to show their gratitude to their teachers. Well done Evon!

Investing in Yourself – Success Lesson #1

Greetings All~

I just got off the phone with one of our Platinum Level Powerful Words Clients and I’m grinning from ear to ear because…well…she gets it. “What exactly does she get?” you ask. The conversation though brief, was very telling. She basically told me that she realized she had a “Marketing Weakness” that she needed to fix IMMEDIATELY if not sooner. She wanted to know exactly what I would do if I were her and wanted to fix this problem. My answer was simple, “You need somebody to show you EXACTLY what to do so that you can learn it and do it. It’s time to invest in yourself so you can enjoy the return in the near future!” and that’s actually Success Lesson #1.

Investing in your own Continuing Education

Before we dive into it though, I have to ask you the following questions (and be honest with your answers!):

1.) How do you view education – as an expense or as an investment?

2.) How often do you seek out an expert or a mentor to help you to build your own knowledge or expertise?

3.) What is the COST of not being educated?

The answers to the above questions can be very telling. As many of you know, both Dr. Robyn and I are ALWAYS participating in some form of continuing education to further our knowledge about something. It’s just the way we live – and it’s continually paying us back…in spades!

I personally view education and knowledge as one of the best investments you can make in yourself. I’ve never viewed it as an expense…and I never will. Now, I’m not saying to go out and invest in a course that will keep you from paying your rent this month, please don’t misunderstand me! You need to be able to chart out what you’re going to work on and then go after it. Many of our current Platinum Level clients actually started out as Silver Level Members…they got a taste of knowledge and wanted more…so they upgraded themselves to Gold Level…then they wanted more so they stepped up to Platinum Level. It’s only natural to want the highest level of knowledge you can get your hands on, isn’t it?

Here’s a quick story for you. I was recently at the Glazer / Kennedy Marketing Super Conference in Nashville, TN. If you look at the numbers, you might think I’m crazy. The fee for the seminar was about $2,000, my airfare was an additional $600, my hotel was about $750, and heaven only knows what I spent on food. That’s over $3,300! And ya know what? I easily got that value in information and knowledge within the first 30 minutes of the first workshop. I listened to Dan Kennedy, my marketing mentor share his experience about a mistake he made (that I will now avoid) that cost him close to $50,000. Wow. Talk about a good investment! My numbers tell me that I invested $3,300 to save $50,000 – and that was just in the first 1/2 hour! Another fine investment if I do say so myself 🙂

So – when was the last time you invested in YOU? Are you becoming concerned about all the recent fears regarding the economy? Greetings from the Glazer Kennedy Marketing Super Conference!  Wow…what a day!

Today’s keynote speaker was none other than Gene Simmons – This man is brilliant.  I can honestly say that I was quite literally in AWE of what he’s accomplished and how much of a REAL, REGULAR GUY he really is.  I wish you could have been here.  It was like getting an MBA in 90 minutes.

Cool Tool to Build Traffic and Google Rankings!

I am always on the hunt for marketing systems that will make my life easier and our business stronger. Over the years I’ve invested a nice chunk of change to test drive a host of different tools and today, I’d like to share one with you that absolutely LOVE!

About 6 months ago while at one of my Master Mind Meetings, one of my friends told me about a service called “SubmitYourArticle.com” He told me that he had been using it to help build traffic to his site as well as increase his online presence in Google. Now, you might be wondering why giving away articles would help grow a business or an internet presence…well – the beauty of all of the articles you provide is the little resource box at the end. You know…the one that says;

I started to research all of the different article banks on the internet and my mind started to swim – there are a gazillion of ’em. The time I’d spend submitting to all of them would prohibit me from doing anything else…so…I took a good look at submityourarticle.com and fell in love with it. I won’t bore ya with all of the details about how it works…if ya wanna learn about that – simply click on the link and check it out (I strongly urge anybody that wants more webtraffic, more google rankings, more clients, and more profit to do so IMMEDIATELY!), however, I will share some interesting statistics with you:

We started using the service on March 1st 2008. So far, we’ve submitted 5 articles (you’re permitted to submit 8 per month). These are our results:

The 5 articles have been re-published 90 times. The 5 articles have been viewed (only on the one site we submitted them) 200 times. 64 people have subscribed to Dr. Robyn’s Free Article Feed!

If you want to see the results for yourself – simply go to google and enter “dr robyn silverman” and see how many pages pop up!

How would something like this help you? Well…imagine a parent searching for an activity for their child – they google something like “your town gymnastics” or “your town martial arts” or “your town dance”, etc. Now imagine that when they googled, they saw 10-15 pages of listings of different articles you’ve written…makes you an expert, doesn’t it? Odds are, they’ll click over to your school’s website…hopefully it’s a prospecting site that captures their information, and immediately and automatically starts the marketing process! (wow..this is a whole different post for another day)

What Stinks?

“Excuse me, can you please tell me if I stink?” Believe it or not, I’ve said this more in the last few days than I have in my entire life…

Let me explain – at 12:30am on Wednesday night, I was taking my dog Casey out before we went to bed and he had an “encounter” with a skunk. As the great dog owner I am, I managed to walk directly into the spray myself in order to get my dog. To make matters worse, I brought him inside to clean him up (big no-no for those of you who have this experience in the future!) and managed to stink the rest of our house up. Dr. Robyn and I then proceeded to scrub Casey (unknowingly, spreading the skunk stench all over the dog and our master bathroom!) for the next hour or so.

Let’s just say that now I know what Hell smells like. I wasn’t sure how bad it was until I was walking down the baking aisle in our local supermarket (I had to buy baking soda to remove some stink), when I heard a young girl scream, “Mommy, What STINKS?” It got even better when her mom bent down, whispered in her ear, then pointed at ME! Ouch!

Understand that Dr. Robyn and I are both super-sensitive to smell…especially nasty ones. We’ve done as much as humanly possible to improve the “air quality” in our house…we’ve scrubbed every inch of our house, sprayed bottles and bottles of Fabreeze, thrown out anything that’s unsalvageable, done 25 loads of laundry, and I’m convinced that we are personally putting our dry cleaners kids through college. But still…we keep asking people, “Do I stink?” because we’re unable to even smell it anymore as we’ve become used to it!

This really got me thinking…what have you gotten used to in your business? Anything that stinks? Some of my personal coaching clients have shared with me that before we started working together, they got used to:

• Low new enrollment numbers
• High Quit Ratios / Lousy Student Retention
• Cruddy Marketing Strategy (or a complete lack thereof)
• Unprofessional or Disrespectful Staff Members
• Disrespectful Clients
• Negative Mindsets and Attitudes

Obviously, to get rid of some of these STINKERS, it usually takes Massive Action. The problem I’ve seen however, is that most people get completely overwhelmed by the need for Massive Action…SO…here’s a suggestion that I got from my coach that works well for me and actually accumulates into Success!

What is the smallest and easiest action you can take RIGHT NOW to move you closer to your goal? Do it right now. Then once you’re done, ask yourself the same question and again, do it right now. What you’ll find is that by staying in constant motion and implementing small improvements on a consistent and regular basis, you’ll get rid of the STINKERS and find the success you deserve!
